We had a large party for this trip so we booked the six bedroom cabin at Mountain Lodge. The location was perfect. Ski-in-and-ski-out steps from our cabin, and a 5 minute walk to the grocery store and gondolas. The restaurant, The View, is also available on the ski trails and a perfect spot for lunch between runs or dinner after a full day.
Another option for accommodations is Madeline Hotel and Residences. This resort is centrally located in the village and Telluride’s only Five Star resort.
We flew into Montrose/Telluride (MTJ) airport from Atlanta with Delta airlines and used Mountain Limo for the 1.5 hour drive from the airport to Telluride and back!
Telluride Winter Itinerary
Make sure you book reservations way in advance if you’re going during the busier seasons (Christmas Week, President’s Day weekend, or March Spring Breaks)
Day 1
Check into your hotel or cabin and get settled. Explore the ski village and pick up or schedule your ski equipment delivery. Take the gondola to downtown Telluride for dinner at The Chop House and Wine Bar.
Day 2
First ski day! This looks different for every family. Some will have kids in ski school, others are just winging it, and some are full-on professionals. Take this first day to get to know the area, lifts, and ski runs. Our favorites were Enchanted Forest and Galloping Goose. Slopes and lifts are typically open 9am – 3pm, same as ski school hours. Enjoy Apres Ski in the village by the fires at Black Iron Kitchen..
Day 3
Alta Ghost Town snowmobile tours with Telluride Outfitters. Explore & shop the mountain village to grab some quick bite tacos at the food carts. Relax by a fire at your cabin or hotel. Dinner at Allred’s Restaurant.
Day 4
Ski Day #2! This is usually better than the first day because you’re getting used to the runs and figuring out which ones you like vs don’t. Apres Ski at Tomboy Tavern and ice skating for the kids right next door. Let’s relax in the lounge town back at the cabin or hotel room, and end your night in the hot tub with a glass of wine!
Day 5
Ski Day #3. Keep the momentum going! Break this day up and stop at the Gorrono Ranch, for a hot bowl of chilli or hot chocolate between runs. This is located on the mountain, under Village Express Ski Lift 4 and offers a full menu of soups, sandwiches, and burgers. End the ski day a couple hours early and head into downtown Telluride to catch the 2 hr Horse Sleigh Ride. Dinner tonight at the amazing thai restaurant, Siam Talay, overlooking the snowy slopes.
Day 6
Make it a slow morning with a full breakfast for a day of exploring and shopping. We made this a free day, so everyone had a chance to go do whatever their heart desired. We ended up going to Downtown Telluride for a full day of shopping and ended it with the best pizza ever at Brown Dog Pizza. Other options for your free day are Dog Sledding, Fat Tire biking, hiking Bear Creek Trail, or taking a day trip to the hot springs towns Ouray and Durango.
Day 7
Ski Day #4 and make it count! Try new trails and make sure you go to the highest part of the mountains and ski See Forever all the way down! Take the Gold Hill Express (lift 14) and turn left off the lift to See Forever. If you are a small group I highly recommend getting a reservation at Alpino Vino, the highest elevation restaurant in North America and only open during the winter.
