Summer is a year round resident over here. She might go on a quick trip, but hurriedly returns before you even know she left. Summers and Palomas are similar. Palomas can totally be a year round drink, but something about a Paloma in the summertime checks all the boxes. Summer is technically on its way out, but a Paloma never is. 😉

The Paloma is a light, refreshing tequila based cocktail with just the right amount of fizz and citrus. While little is truly known about its history, it’s believed that this cocktail is named after La Paloma (“The Dove”), a popular folk song from the late 1800’s. Traditionally, it’s made of tequila, lime juice, and a grapefruit soda, like Jarritos, but I like to use a more basic sparkling water and fresh grapefruit juice.

Summer Paloma

The perfect cocktail for summer and summer’s end. The best part is that there’s only four (4) ingredients that you probably already have at your house.

Ingredients

  • Tequila Blanco
  • Grapefruit Juice
  • Sparkling Water Plain, Grapefruit or Lime Flavored
  • Fresh Lime Wedges

Instructions

  • Add 1-2 shots of tequila blanco to your glass.
  • Add 1-2 shots of grapefruit juice.
  • Fill the rest of the glass up with sparkling water.
  • Top off with a squeeze of fresh lime.
  • Garish with a grapefruit and/or lime wedge to give a little extra citrus kick.
My favorite way to enjoy a paloma is to rim the glass with Tajin, fill with crushed ice, pop a straw in, and find a cool shaded spot by the pool.

Enjoy!
