Spain is a gorgeous country, rich in history, beautiful architecture, delicious food, and incredible culture. Spain is the 2nd most visited country in the world, behind France, and if you’ve ever visited you know why! The weather was diverse throughout our visit, and pleasantly never as hot as I was expecting. We visited 3 different cities during our trip and each one was unique in its own beautiful way. Barcelona has big city vibes, busy with tourists and iconic buildings. San Sebastian was a relaxing resort town, living at a slower pace with gorgeous water views. Madrid has a more elegant royal feeling, with beautiful buildings and delicious food at every corner. If you’re planning a trip to Spain, use this blog for some destination inspiration!

Things to know before you go:

5

Siesta

Restaurants and shops will close between 2pm-5pm. This is a nationwide policy known as “siesta”.
5

Dinner isn’t served until later due to the “siesta”.

Most restaurants serve dinner between 8pm and midnight.
5

Pickpockets

This was a real thing especially in Barcelona and other crowded cities. Make sure you have a fanny pack or anti-theft crossbody bag while touring the city.
5

Pack for the diverse climates.

Short sleeves, to sweatshirts, to rain jackets!
5

Most places accept credit cards...

…but make sure you have some Euros on you for unique street vendors and small shops. We tried to use cash as much as possible while we were there.
5

Make sure you bring a Euro-plug

This is also known as a Type C, which has two round pins and is used in most European countries.
5

Trains are very easy to use in European cities

Trains are the most effective and inexpensive way to get between cities. Download the apps: Renfe, Trainline, and Omio. I recommend reading some train travel blogs for whatever cities you plan on going to as well.

A Quick Stop in Pisa, Italy

Sometimes, the best memories are the unplanned ones. During our family adventure through Italy, we made a super last-minute decision to swing by Pisa on our way from Cinque Terre to Florence. I’ll be honest, Pisa wasn’t at the top of our Italy itinerary, and we...
