Here’s our family-friendly Florence itinerary filled with foodie adventures, cultural must-sees, and hidden gems that made our trip unforgettable.
Day 1
Discovering Florence’s Wine Windows
We started our Florence adventure with one of the city’s quirkiest traditions: wine windows, or buchette del vino. These tiny stone windows date back to the 1600s when Florentines sold wine straight from their homes.
Now, they’re a fun way to grab a glass of Chianti while wandering the city. The kids loved peeking through the little openings, and I loved my first “welcome to Florence” wine moment.
Mom Tip: Wine windows are scattered throughout the city, but many are tucked away on quiet streets. Keep your eyes peeled, and your glass ready! I found one that served espresso martinis too!
Gucci Garden & the Best Gelato in Florence
Florence isn’t just about ancient art, it’s also home to some serious modern style. We spent the morning at Gucci Garden, a stunning museum celebrating Gucci’s history. The colorful, bold designs were mesmerizing, and even the kids were entertained by the interactive displays.
After soaking up the fashion vibes, we headed to Vivoli, one of Florence’s oldest and most beloved gelato shops. Their pistachio affogato is perfect with creamy pistachio gelato drenched in hot espresso.
Travel Hack: Go early in the day to avoid long lines, especially if you’re visiting during peak season.
Iconic Florence Eats & Michelangelo’s David
Next, it was time for the Uffizi Gallery and Florence’s ultimate masterpiece: Michelangelo’s David at the Galleria dell’Accademia. We ended up being OK with just seeing the replica outside of the museum, because in all honesty, we aren’t art museum people.
Mom Tip: Book tickets online ahead of time to skip the long lines and pack snacks to keep little ones happy if you truly want to soak up the art.

Day 2
An Italian Daydream Cooking Class
Then we headed to one of our favorite activities in Florence (besides shopping!). We joined Walkabout Tours for a cooking class that felt like stepping into an Italian daydream.
We kicked things off with a glass of wine and fresh bruschetta made from garden-picked tomatoes. It was so simple, yet so delicious. Theme of the class! Then came the hands-on fun: prepping our own gelato and pizza dough. The kids loved rolling and shaping their pizzas while sneaking extra cheese.
Before cooking, we wandered through the gardens, (which also had an incredible view of Florence) plucking ripe tomatoes and juicy plums straight from the vines and trees. Talk about farm-to-table magic!
Finally, it was time to feast. And let me just say: it was the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life . Fresh, flavorful, and made with love. The class was the perfect mix of fun, food, and family, and I’d recommend it to anyone traveling with kids.
