1. Shorter Security Lines
TSA PreCheck® allows families to use expedited security lines, which generally move faster than regular lines, reducing the time spent in security. This makes those chaotic summer airport lines look like a thing of the past! About 99% of TSA PreCheck® passengers wait less than 10 minutes.
2. Ease of Screening
Families with TSA PreCheck don’t need to remove shoes, belts, or light jackets. No need to remove laptops or ipads, or 3-1-1 liquids from any bags. This makes the process smoother, especially when dealing with kids, their belongings, and your own.
3. Less Stressful Experience
The expedited process and fewer requirements can reduce stress and make the overall travel experience more enjoyable for both parents and children. One of the biggest stressors to me at airport security used to be when I was trying to repack everyone’s bags racing against the speed of the conveyor belt, all with my shoes off.
4. Improved Convenience
Families can stay together through the security process, which is particularly helpful for managing young children and keeping track of everyone’s belongings. *Children 17 and under can join an adult with TSA PreCheck® , so only adults need to pay and apply.
How to Apply for TSA PreCheck®
It’s a rather simple process that takes maybe an hour max to complete. After you fill out a quick application online, you’ll set up an in-person appointment locally where they’ll do a background check and fingerprint. The in-person appointment took me no more than 15 minutes. After you’ve completed those 2 steps, it may take 2-3 weeks to be processed and approved. Timing may vary so plan ahead and just go ahead and get it done after reading this post. Visit the government website here to get started!
Travel Credit Cards that will pay for your TSA PreCheck®

Additional Tips
Your TSA PreCheck® number is also called your Known Traveler Number (KTN). You will be asked to enter this when you purchase airline tickets.
Reminder: Children under 17 years old don’t need to apply or go to in-person appointments with you. They are covered under their adult’s TSA PreCheck® at the airport.
Make sure the name you have registered with airlines is the same as the one registered with TSA PreCheck®. If your name appears differently, the precheck will not show up on your boarding pass, and you’ll have to go to a ticket agent before heading through security. They can usually easily add the precheck onto your boarding pass when you give them your KTN.
