Baby Wearing Tips with Ergobaby

Baby weairng is traditional practice in many cultures around the world and mamas have been close and connected to their babies for centuries. You can google and read all about the benefits of baby wearing (because they’re all pretty amazing!), but first you have to find the right baby carrier of you. This is probably the hardest part.

There are so many different brands and types of baby carriers on the market today. Babies love being nuzzled up to their mamas, and as a mom you love the feeling of having your baby close and safe. I believe baby carriers are SUPER important and a must have on any registry, especially if you’re a family on-the-go and/or with multiple kids. A good carrier will allow you the freedom of going about your daily activities, even while nursing!

The Ergo Baby carriers have been a lifesaver for me during the transition from one baby to two, and two babies to three. The Ergo Baby Original was almost like another limb for me for years. I’ve used it in every possible position with all my kids, at all different weights for over five years. Hello quality!

When I was asked to give the newest Ergobaby Omni 360 a review, I was excited to finally get a new Ergo since I’ve used the same one for years. Not that it’s broken or anything, but it’s nice to have more than one when you use them so often.

For the past 6 months or so I’ve been using the Ergobay Omni 360. It was a strange time for me to start using it because Rockwell was already at the stage where he wanted to be out and running around the majority of the time, but when we took a few Disney trips, it was the perfect t time to put it to the test. Rockwell napped in the Omni 360 perfectly, while I strolled around Disney with the family.

  • Easy to use by yourself. At first you may feel like you need some assistance to buckle it all up, but in no time you’ll be an expert. There are no long pieces of fabric to try and figure out.
  • Comfortable even after hours of wear, walking around Disney World. The Omni 360 has lumbar support and crossable padded shoulder straps, giving a personalized fit. The padded waist belt distributes baby’s weight between your shoulders and hips.. I was comfortable wearing my 25 lb toddler in this while 4 months pregnant!
  • Privacy Hood allows you to protect baby from sun or wind, but I used this for nursing more times than not. My exclusively breastfed babies nursed around the clock sometimes, making it difficult to actually do anything. Sometimes I’d even pop them in the carrier to nurse and get some organizing done around the house.
  • Adjustable base makes infant inserts a thing of the past. This is a one and done carrier, no need for separate carriers or inserts at different ages and weights. I purchased the infant insert for my Ergobaby Original but never actually used it. I felt it was way too bulky and I could never get my babies comfortable in it. Thank goodness those are no longer needed. The Omni 360 carrier is adjustable from newborn to toddler (7-45 lbs)
  • Babies are placed in a “natural seated position” and the Omni 360 has been acknowledged as a “hip healthy” product by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute

  1. Finding the perfect fit can be tricky at first and I recommend having a “helper” around if you’re not used to baby wearing. Put the carrier on in a loose fit. Place baby in carrier and adjust around the baby. This will ensure both you and baby are snug and comfortable.

  2. Practice around your house before going in public to make sure both you and baby are comfortable.

  3. Pick the right material for your climate. Baby carriers come in all sorts of material, but making sure your baby is dressed appropriately and hydrated will keep them cool and comfortable. Don’t overdress babies, even in the winter since your body heat will help keep baby warm. Also, don’t forget to hydrate yourself! I’ve taken my carriers off a few times to find a soaked shirt during summer.

  4. Be Safe. Baby carriers are a lifesaver for moms, but using them correctly is key. I don’t recommend wearing an infant in back position and always make sure baby’s airway isn’t blocked.

  5. Save your back by bending with your knees and keeping baby in upright position when bending over.

Which ever baby carrier you choose is right for you and your baby, I’m happy to see mamas everywhere baby-wearing!
